Which CRAFT goal sounds most like you?

communication

#1

We have great response & interest in this community to learn more about the Community Reinforcement And Family Training (CRAFT) protocols. CRAFT is a training for friends and family members concerned about a loved one’s substance use. It’s been proven more effective to the concerned significant others (that’s you & me!) than the Anon groups or confrontational style interventions.

CRAFT helps to:

  1. build better communication and relationships with loved ones
  2. better understand usage habits and reduce harmful substance use in our loved ones
  3. reduce anxiety, depression, anger and physical illness in ourselves and families
  4. build motivation and achieve treatment entry for loved ones who need it
  5. build tolerance and toolkits to better handle the long recovery journey and enjoy your life!

We’d love to know which of the above goals are of greatest importance to you?

How do you save a loved one struggling with addiction from themselves?
#2

For me, goals 5 and 1 are most important!

#3

I guess 4 would be most important. We’re a small family so we have a good relationship, seeing each other almost daily and talking about our lives together. I understand alot about addiction from what tey share with me, mine and my husbands past alcohol usage, and attending forums, etc. on the subjects of addiction. They are not in recovery nor are willing to be and most of the time deny they have a problem… so it’s getting them to realize and admit they do have a problem and can’t do it alone is what I don’t know how to get them to that point.

#4

First time hearing of “Craft “ I think I need to know more about each step. Anything to help our family in this situation. The stress, depression and “craziness “ is taking a tool on us all.

#5

For me I’d say 1 & 5 and also - love to have more professional support for the long term recovery like sleep, anxiety, social connection and purpose - these are things my loved one could use some help with and I don’t have all the answers!

#6

Something interesting I learned about the CRAFT model is that it’s “steps” are flexible - not linear like other methodologies. This model wants to start with the specific goal/s of the concerned significant others (that’s us!) and then address accordingly.

Sounds like, right now, goal 3 might be most important to you @Denise ?

Number 5 and 3 I really could use number 2

#8

I think #2 and #5. With heroin use, harm reduction is essential and I’m still sorting out medication based therapies and other ways to help a loved one kick that habit forever.

Then for #5, helping our family understand we may not have a fast resolution to this situation, and helping us to each live the best lives even with the uncertainty of addiction in a family member.

1, 3 and 5 are most important for me!

For me, numbers 1 and 4 are most important!

1, 3 & 5 for me. Do they have meetings like Alanon?
Thank you!

Great question @Lyoung1902!

As far as I know (and @erica correct me if I’m wrong), CRAFT is a methodology instead of an organization so they do not have meetings like AlAnon. We do hope that you’ll find a similar type of support & community here at Village - even if we’re not available in-person, we are available 24/7!!

You might also check out this CRAFT-based practical, compassionate and effective tool for those who are concerned about their loved one’s substance use and want to learn ways to prevent it. It’s available on the Center for Motivation and Change website. You’ll notice it says purchase but there’s an option to download each topic for free.

Let me know what you think!

#13

@katie you are right! Unfortunately CRAFT doesn’t have meetings that are as easily accessible as AlAnon. However, we do offer a 12-week online CRAFT program with group coaching!

Here is a link to a post I wrote on SMART Recovery. These groups are CRAFT informed. @Lyoung1902 let me know if you have any other questions about CRAFT!

A note from the Village :love_letter:: Our Coaches are CRAFT certified and uniquely expert in training families to face addiction and get through recovery together. If you are interested in additional support, check out our online CRAFT programs at wethevillage.co.

Thank you! I am attending alanon and read various books that help so much. Happy to have found you all!

#17

Awesome @Lyoung1902 please keep sharing with us what works for you and what doesn’t so we can all learn from each other’s wisdom!

#18

1 and 5 are the most important to me at this time.

#19

I think 1 and 5 are the most important to me

I feel like which is most important can change depending on your current situation since they all have a purpose. The one right now most important to me is number one because that is what I am struggling with open and honest communication that has the intention of love behind it. My family has never been big on expressing feelings but since being with my boyfriend he has shown me the importance of it. I am trying and hoping that I can open my family to it so we can communicate and then help each other.

Goals 1, 3, and 5 are the most important for me for now.
