My husband has come such a loooong way in his past 3 years in recovery and I’m feeling very grateful for being able to see the man I love without so much pain!

But it is still there in certain ways. I’m now noticing that some of the pain he felt around not fulfilling his potential in his past job creeping out into the open again. I’m feeling like this is a hurdle he needs to jump over to find fulfillment in his life and move out of some of the painful cycles. Now to help make some space for it and ask how I can help him achieve his dreams <3

My brother has been working hard since he moved back to the US last month. He works Sunday-Friday and only get’s Saturday’s off. This past Sunday he called out from work and slept for what seemed like almost 24 hours. I was worried that he was slipping back into his depressive patterns: hypersomnia, irritable, moody, angry, and hopeless. I feared he would lose motivation, lose his job, and start to feel like a failure.

My WIN is that when I went to see him on Sunday he was awake and in a great mood, simply said he was still adjusting to his new schedule and living in NYC and needed a mental health day, and was back at work Monday just as motivated as he was before!

It’s an ongoing process to reduce the worry but every time a similar situation presents itself, I learn something that always helps me the next time

Happy Halloween! :jack_o_lantern:

Getting trained in how to use naloxone nasal spray for opioid overdose is a huge win this past week. It makes me feel more powerful in the fight against the opioid epidemic on our streets.

I’ve been clearing out some old beliefs - realizing that so many things are connected, and that MY being - affects everyone and everything around me. For example, I missed a day at the gym because I was SO sleepy - I just needed a nap! So I honored my self and took one! But then the next day, and the day after that, and on and on for almost 2 full weeks - I was just plain lazy. Getting back into the swing of things has been an adjustment, but I can see where I ALWAYS have choices, and every choice has a consequence. Some of them are good - like feeling good, seeing physical changes via the scale or mirror or the way clothes fit, and some are not so good - lots of sugar and carbs make me feel like a slug and cranky (but they’re SO good!!!) - so reminding myself that in EVERY moment I have choices, feels empowering <3

My weekly win is that my BF is 31 days sober (and still in treatment!) woohoo!

I also think on my own front, I have slowly but surely have become more independent and gained a sense of self back while he’s been away. I started two new jobs, after being recently unemployed, and just have been distracted doing that. In a way, it feels good because he’s going to come back to a busier, more motivated GF. When I was unemployed, I feel like it was hard because I was constantly home and deep in the addiction because I was there 24/7 watching his every move. I was also struggling with my own depression and I feel like everything took a toll on us.

Now, I have this sense of independence and regained confidence that will hopefully motivate him to continue to be healthy since I myself am too.

Love it! Thanks for sharing, @ErinHill!

Halloween (with the holidays trailing close behind!) makes the yummy sugar temptation so hard, and you’re right that we are empowered with the power of CHOICE.
