Weekly Wins & Worries 8/1/18
My husband got his head back in the game after a week of floundering and is making it to all his commitments hoorah! I feel much more at ease.
Though still can’t understand some of the really unhelpful thought processes that make functioning in life so hard for him sometimes!
Feeling good ! Son started his MAT …, day 2. FIVE days sober. He worked on organizing and cleaning his room yesterday. Very proud Mama ! He even cooked last night. I have to let go of the when and ifs !!!
My son lives about an hour and a half from me now and has since his 3rd overdose. He has saved money for a cheap truck and is now apparently saving money to move back here and get an apartment. He lied to me on Wednesday and told me he was working but actually drove down here. I imagine that he probably came down to buy drugs since he got paid the day before. I talked to him Thursday night and he sounded high to me. So now I’m worried and assuming he’s using again. I started to fall into the old roll of confronting him about his lies and starting to become part of the drama of his addiction. Fortunately I caught myself. I cannot control what he does. Confrontation leads to defensiveness. I can love my son and not his addiction. He knows I’m here if he wants to talk. I just have to keep reminding myself of these things and choose not to react to his addiction.
Thanks for sharing @LisaMarie this week has been a good one for me with my husband, last week was a real low. Amazing how things can change week to week. So hard to keep ourselves happy when our loved ones are struggling. Sending love to you and your loved ones. Let us know if there’s anything we can do <3
Wins/Worry: Although a weight of sadness today and yesterday, I embrace having feelings. I acknowledge that being sad is okay. I will not and am not wallowing in it! Just the Mom’s sadness for their child who is going through difficulty. I have fun events this weekend and will enjoy and be thankful! My son is ultimately safe, even if in jail until they unravel the house arrest paperwork.
A win is my brother is ready to start dating again, and went on a first date this past week! A worry that comes with that is a fear that he’ll get down on himself if she doesn’t feed his ego. Either way, he is moving forward in his recovery and that’s a win in my eyes! I’m choosing to deal with the worry/fear if and when it comes. Happy week to all!
I dropped my husband off to detox yesterday, we were all nervous and anxious, but extremely positive!!! He worked all week to get in someplace, after I left him the week before…
he has taken ownership of losing many relationships and jobs due to his alcoholism over the last two years! This will be his third time in rehab, so I am hoping for the best! Positive vibes! The hard part for me is dealing with all of the negativity my family and our friends throw at me…it’s amazing to me how conditional love is for some people! I know my husband may never maintain sobriety, but I am willing to take the chance that he will be successful this time, but more importantly, when I took those marriage vows two years ago, I meant them…what kind of person would I be if I gave up on him so soon?
