I wish I knew that the brain takes time (months) to heal and makes relapse and depression pretty normal during this time. How about you?
What do you wish you had known at the beginning of the recovery process?

I wish I had known much sooner to quit the enabling, though of course I didn’t realize at the time I was doing it.

This hit me so out of the blue. My husband at 50 who had everything in life started doing crack. Wow, I was so angry and hurt and just couldn’t believe it. I wish I would have known that I couldn’t do anything about his problems. It was him, not me. Take care of yourself. They have to want help and to change their life. Get your life in order. Don’t let them blame you. Trust God to get you through this.

I wish I knew how much it impacted family dynamics, and the importance of working together as a team to support each other as well as our loved one struggling with substances.
