What is the CRAFT approach to addiction?

#1

It’s proven: you can help.

You are not powerless over your loved one’s substance use disorder. You can enable positive change in your loved one and help them find treatment and recovery.

:sun_behind_small_cloud:The Community Reinforcement Approach and Family Training (CRAFT) intervention was developed with the belief that family members can play a powerful role in helping to encourage loved ones with a substance use disorder to engage in treatment and recovery.

️‍🩹 Family members who attend the CRAFT program also benefit by becoming more independent and reducing their depression, anxiety and anger symptoms even if their loved one does not enter treatment.

:bulb: CRAFT uses an overall positive approach and steers clear of any confrontation, and emphasizes learning new skills to cope with old problems.

:couple: No one has better information about the substance user’s behavior patterns than a close family member. CRAFT teaches family members how to use this information in a motivational way to increase the chance of the substance user entering treatment and staying in recovery.

:raised_hands: CRAFT research has shown that almost 7 out of 10 people who use the program get their substance user to attend treatment.
