This might be a tricky subject, but has anyone had a loved one get injured while in rehab? My partner has epilepsy, and she’s been in rehab for almost 5 months now. I don’t know where she’s located, she’s very private because she thinks I’m going to call the facility and ask questions.

But in the time that she’s been there, she has gotten severely injured three times and I feel like the staff is being extremely negligent with her. She hit her head and ended up in the ER, she fell down stairs and nearly broke her leg, and now over the weekend she actually fractured her arm…

I’m going to attach pictures of her arm and her leg, so please take caution because it might be tough to look at. But I want to take legal action against this facility for their negligence. There is absolutely no reason she should be getting hurt this badly. But she stands by them and says it’s not their fault and says she gets hurt with her epilepsy. We’ve been together for 2 years, every seizure she has, I do everything to make sure she avoids an injury.

But this is ridiculous. She should not be getting injured like this. When she comes home, should I discuss taking legal action? Or should I just let it go? What would you do if you were in this situation? And if you have been in this situation, what did you do?

@MsGalaxy - I’m sorry to hear about your loved one’s injuries. They do look alarming and it’s totally understandable that you’d be worried, especially since you’re the one who’s been supporting her and looking after her for so long.

Before discussing legal action, maybe you can gently share your concerns and ask how she feels about everything, not just physically, but emotionally too. Opening the door for calm, respectful communication might help her feel less like she has to be defensive or secretive. She feels she’s being supported, and she’s making choices about her own care and recovery. And that’s a good thing!
