This is really hard to navigate and scary! Living in NYC it’s hard to relate (public transportation and all), but this is what I tell everyone I work with in similar situations:

The primary thing to think about in this situation is the safety of your children. The solution may be hard but it’s simple as well: never let him drive your kids anywhere, don’t let them get in the car with him. Drive them yourself, ask a friend, call them a car, do what you can to avoid them getting in the car with him. If you feel like he is in danger of harming himself or others, which he may be if driving under the influence, you can call your local authorities for more guidance.

A few questions:
What is his relationship with alcohol like? What is your communication like? Has he tried to stop in the past but have trouble? Have you spoken to him about your concerns regarding driving drunk with the kids? If so, how has he responded. All of the answers to these questions will help me, and the community, better help and give meaningful feedback.
